Health Benefits Information
We know that shopping for individual health insurance for you and your family is an extremely important responsibility, making it a stressful, sometimes even overwhelming endeavor. From PPO’s and HMO’s to Affordable Care Act subsidies and everything in between. Our independent health insurance brokers here at Shelton Insurance know the market. Seeking health care should not be a scary experience with hidden costs. You should be confident that your insurance covers your varying health needs as they happen.
Here’s how it works. You pay health care companies a set amount of money each month and you get benefits to pay for your family’s eligible health care expenses. This can include regular doctor checkups or injuries to treatment for long-term illnesses. Generally, the more you pay per month (premium), the lower your deductibles.
With some plans, you’ll pay a certain amount, called a co-payment, when you have a service. If you have a deductible, that’s the amount you’ll have to pay for covered services before the insurance starts paying. Most of the time, you’ll pay for part of your health care services until you’ve paid the “out of pocket maximum.” After that, the health insurance usually pays for covered expenses.
Family health insurance is very important, but many people have trouble understanding which health plans to purchase, what benefits they’re getting, and how much they need to pay at certain times. That’s where we come in. At Shelton Insurance, we choose family health insurance plans that are tailored to your family’s needs, so you can be confident you’re covered when it counts. You never know when you’ll need medical help.

You may be asking; can I get family health insurance now? Yes! You can enroll for family health insurance during the designated Open Enrollment period each year. If you’re unsure when that is, just ask us. Outside of that time, you can qualify for a Special Enrollment Period with “qualifying life events”. Some of these events include divorce, loss of employment, income change, new dependents, or moving to a new area. You will need to prove that you had a qualifying life event, and we can help you find family health insurance within a certain window of time.
Covered California is the name of the state exchange where individuals and families can be awarded subsidies via the Advanced Premium Tax Credit. The open enrollment periods coincide with the individual and family plans. Many of the same rules and premium rating areas due apply. Shelton Insurance has worked with Covered California since its inception in 2013/2014. The key to these plans are to guess what your future income will be.
To enroll, you will need identification for everyone in the household over 18 and proof of income. The most commonly used document is your previous year’s 1040 form from your taxes for the family or the individual. When one member of the household or individual turns 65 they are no longer eligible for the APTC or Subsidy because they will have started Medicare.

Life Insurance Benefits
Family life insurance is an important part of any financial plan. It can provide security for the people you love when you are no longer around. If something happened to you, would the financial future of your loved ones be protected?
Help ease your mind with coverage that you and your family can rely on. As an independent insurance consultant/broker, Shelton Insurance has relationships with a vast scope of insurance markets which enables our office to evaluate insurance products that are perfect for what you are looking for and ultimately, what you and your family need.
Family vision insurance helps offset the costs of routine eye exams and helps pay for vision correction wear, like eyeglasses, that may be prescribed by physicians or eye-care specialists. Family vision insurance is generally considered supplemental insurance, which means that consumers generally buy vision insurance in addition to other types of medical insurance policies. Some vision plans also offer discounts on elective vision correction surgery, such as LASIK and Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK).
Long Term Benefits
As you get older, you may need help with things you’ve always been able to do yourself – shopping for groceries, cooking meals, cleaning the house. You may also need help with personal services, like bathing, dressing or taking medications. A family long-term care insurance policy is designed to help you pay for these types of services.
Your most valuable asset isn’t your house, car or retirement account. It’s the ability to make a living. Disability insurance pays a portion of your income if you can’t work for an extended period because of an illness or injury. If you were unable to work due to illness or injury, disability insurance can help to pay for essential expenses, including food, utilities, school tuition, mortgage, and car payments.
